Using Towel Warmers at the Pool or Spa

If you have a swimming pool or spa you can benefit from having a towel warmer installed close to the pool/spa area.

Towel warmers aren’t just for bathrooms. In addition to heating towels and robes, they are very useful drying towels and bathing suits. Evening dips in a spa are great, especially on chilly nights, so enjoy getting out as much as you enjoy getting in by installing a towel and robe warmer in your spa shack or pool house.

There are basically two designs of towel warmers for pool and spa use.  Enclosed cabinet warmers are usually made of Red Cedar and are fully enclosed to keep out the elements. Some cabinet warmers have duel compartments, one with hooks for robes, towels and suits and another unheated compartment for storing folded towels. Additional details of cabinet warmers:

  • Stand approximately 6 feet tall
  • Are approximately 3 feet wide
  • Approximately 17 inches deep
  • Plug into any grounded outlet
  • Cost about $1800
  • Optional fan to circulate heated air
  • Optional light that turns on when door is opened
  • Optional timer to conserve energy
  • Optional temperature adjustment

Mounted hydronic warmers are made of hollow metal tubing that is placed in line with hot water plumbing that runs to your spa or pool. Because these are not completely safe from the elements, these are best installed inside a spa shack or pool house.

Additional details of hydronic warmers:

  • Virtually free to use if installed in line with other hot water plumbing
  • Installation is easy if done during original construction or remodeling of spa or pool shelter
  • Come in a variety of styles, number of rungs and finishes
  • Take up very little space
  • Relatively inexpensive starting at $300
  • Repairs may require hiring a plumber

Whether you choose a cabinet warmer or a hydronic one, installing one will ensure you won’t have to suffer through icy towels or robes again.
